Gregory E. Rutledge, an associate professor and former lawyer, specializes in African American literature and culture, with particular interest in epic performance and racial myth (exceptionalism). The Epic Trickster in American Literature: From Sunjata to So(u)l (2013) is his defining work, and a direct link to his scholarly interest in Afrofuturism, Afro-Korean connections, and critical race theory. Current work on Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing is forthcoming as part of a book-length project. His literary criticism, law review articles, fiction, poetry, and other works have been published in numerous journals.
