I’ve recently stumbled into a one-sided love affair with film critic Kim Morgan, whose Sunset Gun blog is carved after my own heart. As you can see from her photo at left, this girl defies the average conception of the film addicted blogger with her model looks and sly sense of humor. I love her for digging deep into the pop culture trash bins to praise films like the recent Wicker Man remake:
“The picture sure didn’t scare me (though it may scare men), but it remains weirdly entertaining and at times, hilarious. In fact, since my third viewing of the film, I find myself in the lonely position of defending the picture, albeit with many questions. Though most critics found the film laughably absurd, I think LaBute’s Wicker Man might be a work of wickedly hilarious subversion. A cult classic in the making.
This is the sort of writin’ I love, the kind that makes me want to run home and watch DVDs I’ve seen a trillion times already with a whole new pair of eyes… She is one of those rare gifts from cinema heaven, able to mix witty insight with humor and a contagious joy of cinema. Not only do you want to hang out with this wonderous creature, her conversational style makes you feel like you ARE!
Her latest blog praises Jane Fonda who is currently in that Lindsay Lohan movie making the multiplex rounds, Georgia Rule. You got to love that after praising Fonda to the sky, Kim willingly links to the 16 pages of Hanoi Jane-bashing comments from the red state rubes reading her article on MSN.
P.S. I have no comment on the Jane-bashing, except to say that if you voted for Bush in either of the past elections you are more of a traitor to the ideals of this country than Jane ever was; and I forgive you, so maybe it’s time you forgave Jane. Right on? Right on.
