Dharma Arthur, who probably won’t be getting a table at the Four Seasons any time soon, or a job at Blender, lost her job as producer for WAPT-TV news in Jackson, Miss., after setting up hapless anchorman Brad McMullan for a live interview with Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen), shown above modeling a double-breasted thongkini and looking for all the world like an outtake from a hirsute dudes video.
As a result of blowback from the disastrous interview, “I spiraled into depression, and before I could recover, I was released from my contract early. It took me three months to find another job, and now I’m thousands of dollars in debt and struggling to keep my house out of foreclosure,” the unhappy Magnolia Stater told Fox News.
If you want to see the agony of Brad, I guess you’ll have to shell out the bucks at the multiplex, because the bit is in the Borat flick but not on the web, so far as I can determine. I’m boycotting Borat myself. David Edelstein saves me the trouble of watching Sacha piss on the innocent with his excellent analysis for New York magazine, “So Funny It Hurts: Borat’s uproarious, until he’s not. Riding the new wave of squirm comedy.”
Ron Rosenbaum advances the frighteningly plausible “two Borat” theory here for Slate, arguing that the original, funny Cohen disappeared on a grassy knoll in Dallas, and was replaced by genetic double processed by the CIA.
